Wish to Revive the Long-Lost Good Chemistry with Your Partner? Choose an Effective Couples Therapy
byNew Jersey Psychotherapy - IPG Counseling

Chemistry brings intimacy and excitement between a couple. The emotional connection grows along with a lasting commitment. It helps with an active sex life too and is crucial for a happy and healthy marriage. But the dopamine level might fade eventually in a long-term relationship. It is normal to feel out of love with your partner at this point. You can go through stages of rough patches while things start to feed ‘dead’ or ‘boring’.

This may cause infidelity or an extra-marital affair. It has been cited as a turning point in a deteriorating relationship and 59.6% of divorces occur for this reason. Separated individuals, when compared to their married counterparts, have higher incidents of depression, distress, and substance abuse. The good news is that you do not have to part ways if there is good compatibility. All you have to do is work consciously on your chemistry to make your bond more beautiful and intense. Here’s what to do.

What is Couple Therapy?

Issues with a romantic partner or spouse may leave us feeling crazy. This is when you may consider therapy to save the relation- ‘ship’. Couples on average wait for seven years after experiencing problems in their relationship before seeking therapy. However, early intervention is needed to uncover hidden issues. Therapists do not promise to save your bond but can help you get a personal insight into what is wrong. Here’s what else they do:

  • Let you know the trigger points that create tension and lead to anger/frustration.
  • Make sure both you and your partner are heard and protected.
  • Ease the situation so you do not feel overwhelmed and miserable.
  • Teach you to express yourself constructively when challenges arrive.
  • Help bridge the communication gap, which is a crucial ingredient in any relationship.

Studies have found that roughly 84% of people surveyed in an NPR-IBM Watson Health poll said that Americans are angrier than today. The psychological impact can be damaging and cripples our ability to come close to anyone. Taking professional help will help set limits on cursing, threatening, abusing, and yelling. You may also learn a few specific skills that can help in listening, negotiating and problem-solving.

Signs You Need Help

There are obvious tell-tale signs that the spark is fading. For instance, you do not talk to them or about them anymore, they are hardly ever on your mind, you find them annoying, the sex is average, and the relationship is no longer on your list of priorities. But all of these do not mean there is an irreparable consequence. Couple therapy is a viable solution that can help fuel your partnership once again and feel an emotional connection. You may be suggested activities like going on a date night or orchestrated touch (massage) to ignite the fire.

The employment of marriage and family therapists is projected to grow by 14% from 2021 to 2031. Therapy is the most effective way to sort differences since 97% of surveyed couples in research by The American Association of Marriage and Family feel they got help.
